Have courage for the truth!

“Have the courage to be truthful” gives readers an unvarnished insight into the world of thought and life of Jehovah's Witnesses. The teaching and belief practice of the religious community of Jehovah's Witnesses is globally binding and centrally organized by the so-called “Governing Body” (lK). A small group of people who form an undisputed spiritual supervisory authority and are responsible within the congregation for all publications that are published through the publishing body of the Watchtower Society. The publications of the “Society”, as the believers use to say, especially the Watchtower, form the framework on which the teaching practice in all congregations (assemblies) worldwide has to be oriented. The “governing body” which sees itself as the mouthpiece of the so-called “loyal and discreet slave” (tuvS), based on Matth. 24: 45 NWT, is itself part of the building of faith and sees itself as God's “channel of communication” and thus legitimizes its far-reaching powers and sanctions. Deviations are not tolerated and inevitably lead to psychological, social and municipal legal consequences which often lead to psychological problems in those affected. * Book is being reprinted. The conflict of conscience

The book gives a sobering look behind the scenes of the leadership of the Watchtower Society. Raymond Franz, himself a former member of the so-called “Governing Body” of Jehovah's Witnesses in Brooklyn, describes in a gripping way how he was given the freedom to act as the inner voice for right and wrong tells you from the Governing Body of Witnesses Jehovah and ultimately led out of the religious community entirely. In doing so, he does away with the idea of many Jehovah's Witnesses that the members of the governing body would make their decisions in prayer to God after intensive personal study of the Holy Scriptures, which often enough affect the intimate life of the followers. In the worst case, the decisions of the Governing Body mean the death of the followers, e.g. B. is about the interpretation of political neutrality. The fact that large numbers of the "witnesses" were sent to their deaths in Malawi, Africa because they were banned from buying a party badge, but at the same time political compromises were made in Mexico is just one of the sobering details of arbitrary decisions.

In search of Christian freedom

The book impressively documents how a small group of men, who have little contact with the outside world, decide about the well-being and woe of their approximately 6 million followers - Jehovah's Witnesses - without taking into account everyday life with its worries, problems and obligations thinks to have to. As “God's channel,” as they call themselves, these men supposedly receive their directives on this matter directly from Jehovah; thus these are neither to be questioned nor to be criticized. The 650-page book has been an essential help for countless Jehovah's Witnesses to this day. Raymond Franz was a member of the "boardroom" of Jehovah's Witnesses and a member of the Brooklyn "Governing Body". He wrote this book after he left the denomination.

A closer look at the times of the nations

Using archaeological material and historical documents, the author shows that Jerusalem was not conquered and destroyed by the Babylonians, as the Watchtower Society claims, in 607 BCE, but in 587 BCE. This fact has considerable effects on one of the special teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses, namely that the "times of the nations", which Jesus once mentioned in connection with the question of his return, should begin in 607 BC, last 2520 years and end in 1914 CE. In 1914 Jesus Christ returned invisibly, and a few years later he found the Jehovah's Witnesses (then: Bible Students) to be the only religious community to be faithful and chose them as his “slave”, to whom he entrusted all his earthly concerns. It is now exciting to see how the author dismantles one argument after another of the Jehovah's Witnesses, and with the calculation of time, all of their claims, step by step. In this way he takes not only their teaching, but also their own supposed role in God's plan of salvation ad absurdum. But because the year 607 forms an essential foundation of its doctrine, the Watchtower Society must hold fast to it under all circumstances and defend it with claws and teeth.

Endless End Times: The Story of Jehovah's Witnesses

Since 1876, Jehovah's Witnesses have believed they are living in the last days of the present world. End-time thinking is the key theme in this detailed story, but there are others. As a longtime, now excommunicated member of Jehovah's Witnesses, James Penton offers a comprehensive overview of this remarkable religious movement. His book consists of three parts, each presenting the history of the witnesses in a different context: historical, with a view to their teaching and sociological. Some of the points he discusses are known to the general public, such as the fact that the organization is against military service and blood transfusions. Others involve internal controversies, including the political control of the organization and the treatment of dissenters within its ranks. James Penton is Professor Emeritus of History and Religious Studies at Lethbridge University, Alberta, Canada.

Prisoners of an idea - the anatomy of an illusion

Jehovah's Witnesses have a special teaching, namely that of the so-called "loyal and discreet slave". They take a parable of Jesus literally and apply it to a specific group in their community. For many decades it was the entirety of the so-called "anointed", according to the "new light" it is only a governing body. If it can now be shown that this understanding is wrong and unfounded, other related doctrines also collapse. Above all, this group is losing its claim to leadership, which is supposedly derived from God and based on the Bible, and the reader can thus come to a new assessment of the claims of Jehovah's Witnesses. This is what this book can and should do. May it help to reevaluate this group.
